Teen American Friends of Fundación CardioInfantil

Many regions in Colombia do not have hospitals with a high capability and many kids with heart diseases are not able to receive the help and medical treatment they need. The social program of the Fundación Cardioinfantil sets out, through regional outreaches, to find kids without funds to pay for surgery and grant it to them for free. Every year, around 200 kids are enrolled in Fundación Cardioinfantil in order to receive free medical treatment and surgery. Every kid is accompanied by one of his parents and they stay in Bogotá for at least one more month to ensure their safety and full recovery.

Our Mission

We are a group of Pan American Teens that live in the United States that would like to contribute to the foundation by getting funds through fundraising activities.

Our idea is to expand the circle of friends of “Teens Friends of Fundación CardioInfantil”, so that more and more clubs are founded in schools and thus, in a coordinated way multiply the work of the “Teens Amigos”. That will let us grow to form a whole community of teens friends of the foundation in different schools in South Florida. 

Word of mouth will start to work until we achieve our goal of aiding and adding good hearts willing to help those in need of help.

The program´s Importance:

    • Helping the children who are ill and in deteriorating states due to heart conditions get back to health and ultimately be able to live an everyday normal life
    • It creates and keeps the bond between Colombians that live outside of their country to their homeland
    • The members of this program will develop skills in leadership and planification along with the ability to empathize and assist people in need 

Our Goals

    • Participating and helping in the regional outreaches. 
    • Being an internal part of the outreach team by instilling a CPR course for young children, processing patient data, accompanying doctors’ side by side during consulting hours, and entertaining the young children. 
    • Along with the regional outreaches, the “Teen Amigos” will create fundraising opportunities such as clothing drives and sales at schools of items such as baked goods and flowers. 
    • Along with fundraising, the “Teen Friends” are creating initiatives and spreading awareness of cardiovascular health in infants and people of all ages as Fundación CardioInfantil does.

Our Impact

    • Our teamwork has impacted many children’s lives. 
    • Volunteering helps raise awareness about pediatric heart conditions and the need for support and donations for research and treatment.
    • Activities and games led by volunteers can offer distraction and stress relief, helping children stay positive and occupied during long periods of hospitalization and waiting time. 
    • The fundraising activities led by our young volunteers have contributed to the completion of 3 surgeries for children with cardiovascular diseases and the purchase of an electrocardiogram machine.
